Hi Ed,

I've been using a router since 1969. When I bought my first home and built my first workshop I bought a craftsman fixed base router and I still have it. That router now has replacement parts in it but it's a little workhorse. Over the years I've accumulated 6 more routers. I own another Craftsman fixed base, a Bosch plunge, and 4 Porter Cable routers of various sizes. After my table saw and chop saw, the routers are the most used tools and the most fun to use.

Bill

Since 1980 - sort of.... My first router was a Craftsman, a Christmas present from my (life-long woodworking) Dad - and a strong hint for finishing my second house!! 370 days later (so much for a one year warranty) the armature brush comutator exploded. (Total use was less than six times - on small jobs!) After no luck with a replacement thru Sears, I sprang for a new armature, for $$$$$'s! That router ended up in a box 99% of it's life with me! First, even though it said 1.5 hp, it did not have power, and the Craftsman bits smoked all the time!! (I recently gave that router away as I could/would not honestly sell it for money!)
About 10 years ago after discovering Router Workshop I purchased a Porter Cable 690, then I tried a carbide bit a little later. BIG DIFFERENCE! That venture peaked my interest to buy a DeWalt 625 with electronic speed control a few years ago. I have also purchased a few carbide bit sets and I now use the 625 for everything!! Even though it is large, I can find a way to use it!! Especially since recently constructing a portable router table!!
I continue to find ways to use a router for wood projects in my 1/8th scale train hobby, even though metal is often the primary material of the hobby.
Now if PBS would only update their feed so people can view the Series after 1200!!!!!!
I can definately Thank Router Workshop for demostrating the many facets of using a router!! Thanks to Bob and Rick!!
(With Toooo many Hobbies!!) Lou

Just getting started... I have a Craftsman 2hp that came with a discount corner table/router/stand that I got for $99. Next is a PC 690 fixed/plunge bases and I just purchased a Hitachi M12V for a permanent table router set-up. Hope to really learn how to make the most of what routers can do.

Default Lack of cutter height in table

Ron,before making drastic changes to you're router table, have you considered a collet extension as shown? Harry

My granddad bought me my first one for my 12th birthday. It was a Wen 1/4" 3/4HP. That would have been 1974.

This was the first post to this thread... back in Dec. 2004...

How does one reset the POLL figures so you can update the answer you gave 3 years ago?

Can the Poll be reset?? (just thought I'd ask)
