I'm not real happy with this next picture but I think someone will still figure out what it is and tell us about it..... if not I add some hints later. So be the first to tell us how this works and what it is for and you get 100 points.....

I think it is a plug cutter to cut a plug for a hole to match the type of wood that you are using. For example if you cant find a dowel of the same wood to match it.

Almost perfect Mike. This type of plug cutter actually has a slight taper built into it to assure a good fit. You are right about using it to make plugs, either matching or contrasting.

Thank you for your addition! I bought a set of these but I seem to use the one size a lot more then anyother..... I was thinking of upgrading at least that size, anyone have a brand or catalog spot with something of an upgrade?

I'll give 50 points to the first one who guess correctly what size is the one I've worn out..... and an extra 25 points if you know the "A" number.

I really like to see good follow up so keep it up!

The size you would have used the most is the 3/8" plug cutter, as this is the one used with #8 screws. Couldn't find any reference to "A" numbers, so will have to pass on that one.

Yes that is the size! I don't even know if they ever use the "A" number anymore but just in case this comes up........ No. 6A as in 6/16" = 3/8"......

Well you got the 50 points anyway...... now any thoughts about an upgrade/new style/new material????????

Ed, I dont think anyone has made a different cutter with a marked improvement over what you have. This is one of the first projects my 14 year old son jumped in to help me with; he cut the 140 plugs used for building the porch swing I posted in the Gallery. He was a big help when it came time for assembly too. It's good to know that there is life beyond Nintendo!
