I don't know what it's called, but I think I saw an article on the NET showing something that looks very similar and it's a measuring device for lathe turners to measure bowl thickness and diameters

I partly agree with Angus, could it be for checking for eccentricity of a "round" object?

My first thought was the Jaws Of Life, a tool rescuers use to free accidents from their wrecked cars. But I'm probably wrong.

Looks like a Bevel Gage , for lathe tools and other wood cutting tools.

Angus, you got are getting warmer. It doesn't measure bowl thickness, but it is used on a lathe.
Harry, yes it measures a round object, but can you be more specific.

Perhaps for measuring the major and minor diameters of a taper to give the angle of the taper?
