Default Atlas stand

You know how it goes.. Wife says, "I want a stand to put this book on in the library", and the search begins.. Googling for book stands came up with some ideas, but then I found out they are called Atlas or Dictionary stands..
First pic is what I found that I wanted to make..

First, I made a template for the sides, then cut and routed the edges of 1/2" baltic birch ply.. The arcs have a 63" radius, and the whole thing stands 44" tall..

The top is also BB ply with 33" arcs on the sides for a nice rounded edge.. The bottom shelf is BB 8x15".. I put in 3 stringers for strength.. Still applying 3/16" poplar to the edges before I coat it with Minwax natural oak polyurethane..

Mike, I'm sure the wife has to be pleased with such a nice looking Atlas stand. You have done a fine job and a great job of posting pictures of you work. Keep it up.

Thanks all.. Still have to take it apart again and finish sanding it.. Then give it a good coating of color.. I'll post a picture when it's done..

Cool Atlas stand #2

This was another of those, "I would like to have" projects..

I finished putting the last coat of Oak Poly on the lower shelf today, and got it all put together in time for Mothers' Day..

I used 1/2" Baltic Birch ply and trimmed the edges with poplar that I ripped to 1/8" thick strips..
