Design moves 1/4" to left on each pass

I just bought a used cnc router. It looks to be a pretty solid unit with one exception. My 3 axis cnc router is moving the design 1/4" to the left on the -Y axis on each of 3 passes of .025". It retains the proper shape and design but they are not on top of each other as they should be. Hoping someone has a thought as I have run out of ideas on how to fix it.
Thanks for any help you mite provide
Gary.

Welcome to the forum, Gary! Add your first name to your profile so it clears the N/a in the side panel. Add your location, as well.

We'll probably need more info - which CNC router, what controller software are you using, does it do this with every job you try to run, etc.? And we do like photos, btw!

PS - I removed your personal email address because it's not a good idea to show that in a public forum. You'll get responses here and if someone needs to contact you outside the forum then you can exchange info in a Private Message

only because i know how easy it is to mis-program the design, i would eliminate that first. then when i know it is not the program, i would ts the mechanical.

i would program a 2 straight cuts a couple of inches long, maybe 1/2" deep in some scrap wood - one in the x axis and one in the y axis. watch the digital position info on the screen as it is cutting. as the cnc is cutting one line, the digital read out will stay constant in the x axis, and change in the y axis. and when cutting the other line, it will be the other way. guess i'm saying watch the dro as the faulty cut is occurring to see if it is staying constant, or drifting also.

Welcome to the Router Forums Gary.

Pictures of your setup might help. What brand and model machine is it? Control software? Is the problem on the Y axis or the X axis?(see Pic)

First, check your coupling for the stepper motors and make sure they are tight. If belt driven check to make sure the belts are not worn and that they are tensioned properly.

Another possibility is that you are trying to exceed the limits of your machine and you are forcing it to lose steps.
