Multiple Segment Collets

Ladies and Gentlemen,
My trustworthy Craftsman 315.17480 workhorse uses a single slit
collet, p/n 610662-000, to secure 1/4" tools. So far so good.
I'm making very long (10') square channels in PVC material and I feel
a slight chatter in the tool.
This could be caused by a slight eccentricity in the bit/collet interface.
Question: Does anyone make a multiple segment replacement collet
for this series of Craftsman routers ?
My thanks for your attention.

Welcome to the forum John. The answer is most likely no. In fact if you needed to replace that collet the answer is most likely no. One of the issues with Sears routers is parts. They aren't available shortly after Sears sells the last one in that batch. That router was made by Ryobi's parent company, One World Technoligies. Sears orders a batch (after putting out a bid and that company winning it) with certain design criteria and OWT makes the batch. OWT is also putting out bids for many of the components that go into the router and when that batch is sold off and Sears is ready for a new batch many of the individual components have changed. You see the problem by now.

welcome to the forums John...

yur hogging too much...
plastic built up on the bit..
clean/sharpen/change the bit... for a new one...
shallower cuts...
still vibrate.. suspect the bearings/bushings..
if it's the bearings or bushings.. find you one of these...
Factory Reconditioned Bosch 1617EVS-46 2.25 HP Fixed-Base Electronic Router
or one of these...
Factory Reconditioned Bosch 1617EVSPK-RT 12 Amp 2.25 HP Combination Plunge and Fixed-Base Router Kit

doubt if you would need a replacement collet and the way sears has gotten.. finding a replacement may be a chore...

Stick is correct about plastic buildup on the bit. Plastic and aluminum are both bad for this and special tooling is available for cutting them. Onsrud makes tooling for cutting plastics I know for sure and I think a few of the other major bit makers offer plastic cutting straight bits too.
