trying to search for post on shop vac

A while ago there was a post on recommending a shop vac.
I believe that that the post was about buying a quite shop vac.

I have tried the search function and got nowhere.

I also believe that "stick" had a recommendation for one in his reply to the tread.

So------
a) can anyone educate me how to search for & obtain the posts regarding the "quite vac"
or
b) recommend one??

Both HD & Lowes have a vac(s) on sale and I was hoping to save some $$$ & pick up one (or the other) but I reasonably sure that neither was the one in the post.

Sorry for my ignorance but I'm usually in the background & read more than post.

Help!!!

TIA

Smitty I think you mean quiet and not quite but that still might not help with the search function as quiet is a pretty common word so there may be so many hits as to make it useless. If you have a idea of who posted in the thread you can go to their personal profile page by clicking on their user name. On that page there is a menu bar that has the word "Statistics" on it. When you click on that one of the options that comes up is to see all the posts that that person has made and also which threads they started. It will show those and the title of the thread. That might be enough to find it as the thread is likely to be something about shop vacs.

Smitty,

Couldn't find your post (I will admit I only looked a bit) but I did find web page that had a few of the major players shop vac's with decibel ratings. Scroll to the bottom of the page, then scroll the chart to the right.

10 Best Wet/Dry Shop Vacuums ? RelevantRankings.com

The data might be dated a little, but could be a head start.

I was just in Woodcraft buying some vac bags for my Fein Turbo I vac and noticed they are going to have $50 off on there next flyer starting in a couple of days for the Fein Vacs. They seem fairly quiet to me. I took the wheels off my Turbo I and it makes it very light and handy.

I have 2 Ridgid 14 gal vacs. Both hooked up to Dust Deputys. Can't beat em for $99. They are a bit noisy but I have run them for as much as 14 hours straight hooked up to my CNC machine. And they're still perking.

I'm using a Ridgid 14 or 16 gallon--not quiet, but functional. Saw an episode of Mythbusters a few days ago where they lifted a car using what appeared to be a Fein vac--that was pretty cool!! (in fairness, any vac with the right CFM would have worked, but they had good taste)

I ran through a similar search a few weeks ago and ended up relying on several outside reviews as well as the one Doug posted above. I purchased the Ridgid 1851 ad am very pleased with the performance (on a chop saw and router table as well as general clean up) and noise level. Might be on slae this time of year as well.

I remember years ago,1948? a Rainbow vacuum cleaner salesman showed up on the farm wanting to sell my mother a vacuum cleaner . His test of how good it was is if it could pick up sparkplugs. He reached into his pocket ,threw a hand full on the floor and suck them up. Didn't impress my mom she didn't normally have to do that. We were too poor ,couldn't afford one anyway. That was before shop vacs, only used brooms.

That reminds me of a story, Herb.

Back in the early 40s (as the story goes) a vacuum cleaner salesman showed up a remote country farm to pitch his wares. The farmer and his wife said they couldn't use one but the pushy salesman insisted and started throwing dirt all over their floor. He said, “Folks if my cleaner doesn’t pick up all this dirt, I’ll give you this crisp $100 bill! Where can I plug it in?” The farmer replied, “Well you may as well give us the bill now and start scrubbin’ the floor ‘cause we ain’t got no electricity.”

Back in the 60s we had one of those pushy Electrolux guys show up with a trainee in tow. We watched the whole show and then simply said we have no money. When he touted their payment plan I invented some horrific debt numbers and they promptly packed and left. All in all an entertaining evening as we seldom got visitors out in the counry in those days.
