Smile Long hole boring

I needed to bore a 16 mm hole in a piece of wood 600mm long, I tried to do it on the lathe, and from both ends, but they never met up.Then i had the bright idea, cut the timber in half lengthwise, then run it through on the router table with a domed bit, brilliant, then i glued it back together, put the steel rod through as an axle, and turned it perfectly round.

Good solution Bob. I believe that spoon bits were traditionally used to bore long holes as I think they are not prone to wander as much as traditional bits but finding one that long could be a challenge.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.

Yes! i have looked for augers,( think that is the term) but they are really just long engineering drills , or a screwed end woodworking drill, haven't seen any spoon bits locally! not to worry , my router did the job,its an amazing tool.
