Hi all,

I live in the UK and am new to the routing scene.

Although a fabricator welder by trade, I am really enjoying working with timber and have just completed my first set of gates!!

Anyway that's all in the past and I am better now!

And so to the job in hand. I have a front door that needs replacing so have had the UPVC guys in to dazzle me with their horrible doors. This, as you can imagine, was a terrible experience with even the look of tacky fittings making me feel quite violent towards the poor git who was trying to sell.

Having booted him out without a sale, I began to wonder just how hard can it be to make a hardwood door frame, buy a door and hang it. After all I have been in engineering all my life and know how to use a tape.

I found a place near me called Inksters. They are a timber merchants however they seem to get their hands on lots of rejected/seconds from various mills.

Needless to say I spent several hours hunting through their large warehouse finally settling on a lovely oak door, 4 lengths on engineered oak lengths for the frame and a coll/threshold, all matching in colour and grain.

So the hard bit now done all I have to do is make up a frame, rout out for the hinges and a multi point lock, what could be simpler!!

Anyway, if there is anyone out there who has done this job before and has any pointers, (except get someone else to do it), it would be great to hear from them and possible seek advice accordingly.

Many thanks for reading my post.
