Built my very first ski

I'm so proud.

1/2" allthread, 22" long each. The ski path is bolted on so easily removable.

As you can see, I'm practicing on a 2X4 in preparation to making some garden train parts, 7/8" scale.

My next router project will be to make train part templates.

hi David, looks like your in business! good work on the skis! my only suggestion is you might want to use a larger fender washer where the allthread goes thru the ends. but that is minor!:)

Just curious Levon, why bigger washers?

Looks like it'll do the job. And, you did a nice job, too.

if you look at photo # 3 , i think larger washers might make it a little easier to adjust, sliding better on a bigger surface. its just my way of overkill , Gene:)

Hi Gene

I agree with levon the bigger OD washers make it easy to adjust and keeps the washer dent out of the stock, small washers will put that nasty little edge on the slots...and in time they will make the rod hang up when you are moving it up or down..fender washers are the best and they are cheap..:)

thanks all for comments, suggestion.

the biggest advantage, besides the fun of running it and making the ski, is that now I can concentrate on the project and less on trying to control the router.

It's a real joy to operate. I've got a whole pile of scrap wood to practice on and a large set of bits to try (well, not as large a set as most of you experts have) :)

Thanks Levon and Bob, for satisfying my curiosity. Now I know.
