hi guys i am new on the forums,
i am from montreal canada, i recently bought a router.
i made what i guess is a common mistake i bat 1/4 shank.
should have bought a 1/4 & 1/2 inch.
i was woundering if there is adaptor on the market to fit 1/2 on 1/4 inch router, i would like to make cabinet doors with raised panel,
all the bits i can find are 1/2 shank
Hi, Welcome to the forum. Drop down and Introduce yourself so we can help you better.
Please post your router brand and model. Some will accept 1/2" and some won't. Generally the smaller ones, 1-1/2 hp or less may not take 1/2".
Either way, need more information to be of any real help.
I think you'll find making raised panel doors with a 1/4" router hard work if you can even find 1/4" raised panel cutters. As John says, the smaller routers won't normally take the bigger cutters. I don't know of any adaptors that would enable you to put 1/2" shank cutters in a 1/4" machine. Whilst it is theoretically possible, they would extend a long way and not be rigid enough for the sort of big cutters you need.
The router you have will do the job,,the panel bit is a little bit smaller in the OD than the norm but they will work out just fine...most of the 1/4" shank type don't come with a back cutter but that's not a big deal...just run the bit on the front side of the panel and the back side to get the tongue to fit in the slot of the frame
thank you for your replues, i know that a router with 1/4 inch shank is not as rigid as
1/2 shank, but i waant to make raised panel door in white pine.
beeing a soft wood it should not be a problem.
like i said i am new in routing, if i like it i will buy a big powerfull monter.
once again, thanks for your quick responses.
