hi all most books i have seen seem to show /mention a router table with the router mounted underneath , other books say the router can be "mounted " above a bench or table, has anyone got plans /info for above bench mounting.

i have 2 routers trend t3 1/4 inch and jcb 1/2 router , i have never used either to date but am now considering making some kind of modest router table .

i can see some advantages of mounting router over table rather than under, but wonder what the general views are on this,

thanks all

Welcome aboard Matey! ..... I've always wanted to say that to someone. Har, Har.
If you've never used a router before, I highly recommend not complicateing the learning process with "Pin Routing". That's what I think you are referring to. This type of routing is kind of a special application, useful in some instances, but is not as versitile as a table mounted router. When I was an Navy instructor, we used the accruanim KISS alot (Keep It Simple Sailor). I think it would apply here too.
I'm not familar with the brands of routers you have, but you can get a ton of valuable information about routing, the easy way, from "The Router Workshop" and this forum. For a quick and easy router table, http://www.oak-park.com/index.html is the best place to get it. They have the complete table and system, or just the plans to make your own table. I built this same table in my own shop. It's simple and the most versitle table ever.....Good Luck.....Chuck
