The amount of self satisfaction gained by doing something like this is worth far more than any of the cograts you may receive, but well done a great first project, many more to come I expect.
That's a very nice stand Scott. I have a couple large aquariums but there still on the cheap(expensive) pet store stands. That is on my to do list, someday.
It's red oak only because I got it at lowes as a cull, they thinned out the odd ball pieces and i got the whole thing cheap. I should have put grain sealer on it, but now I know. The pinnacle coping sled helped alot, but I wouldnt buy another.
Well it's the first bit set I ever used and the first time on a table. I bought the good plywood here locally and matched the bits to it. Very simple to adjust with the shims and it went thru the red oak like butter. No tearout to speak of. Two thumbs up from me:dance3:
Wow, the dog looks so lifelike - how did you do it?
Really nice piece, especially for a first project. My first (not very long ago) was a raised garden bed make from cheap lumber screwed in with deck screws. I haven't evolved too much from there. This is awesome!
My first woodworking project also was an aquarium stand, though not as large; it was for a 55 gallon tank. I also did not own a router yet so mine ended up looking like a shipping crate with a side missing it was the best I could manage with just a miter saw and cordless drill. I will show your project result to my fiancee though so I can say "Look how much nicer I could have made it if I had my router 3 months ago!"
