Has anyone found a way to find who made the Craftsman power tools? I know Craftsman don't make anything, they get them from the lowest bidder! It's easy to tell on some things like their skil drill and sander a few years back. Google didn't turn up anything. Sears couldn't or wouldn't tell me anything useful. Over the years I have a number of their power tools, would like to know who made them. I Especially like the 5"- 8 hole VS sander. wouldn't mind getting another one. I have 6 of their routers, all of them "junk". They just can't seem to get one that's easy to set the depth adj. on anymore.

The Old Type of Craftsman routers are junk,,the ring has been a big down fall on them, strips out of slots, fills up with router dust BUT the NEW type of Craftsman are made right, you may want to take a hard look at them.. , I was a big fan of the Porter Cable for a long time but now I have switch over to the NEW Craftsman, I now have 8 of them and I'm a big fan of them...
I'm not to sure who makes them but it looks like a PC in many ways or Bosch...just a lot lower in price for the same thing..with many new extra items..take a look a the 2 1/2 HP Pro.Craftsman router it will blow you away..the 3 base combo kit for 210.oo bucks is a great deal and will make you step up the counter and say I will take one ,,,thank you..
I should note, all 3 of the bases can be mounted in the router table, they all come with a lift kit built in them.. Light,VS.Vac.tube,etc. etc.
looks alot like the 895, I was there today for brads and some of the routers are very similar. I wonder if its just a name badging marketing strategy. The sears unit is same 11 amp but only 2hp vs 2 1/4
There are many web sites that list how to figure out who made Craftsman power tools. Here is the first link I found with a google search. Who makes tools for Sears Craftsman
I have had at least 3 Craftsman routers over the years and never had any major complaints. Yes the depth adjuster was not the most accurate, but keeping it clean helps a lot. Keeping the collet clean and not over tightened helps in this area as well. Price and availability were the big factors when I purchased mine. As with many power tools, the better quality tools and brands have become more affordable and easier to locate.
I have had some Craftsman tools and they have all been replaced with better quality. I had a cordless drill, belt sander and router. All of them were junk which is why I replaced them. My next replacemnt will be my craftsman 1/4 sheet sander which a part just broke on. I think I am done buying anything from Craftsman that has a motor on it.
