Hi Bryon

This just my 2 cents :)

But I like to use MDF,(1/4" to 3/4" thick) it cuts clean and it's easy to sand out the edges,,and you don't need to worrier about the grain like other stock and you can use all of it the norm, if it's going to be a long time jig I like to use poly.( UHMW ) stock.
UHMW Plastic Sheets and Strips
You can beat the high price by buying cutting boards from wallmart/kartmart/k-mart cheap.

Hi Bryon... you've come to the right place to ask questions. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. They are all great people with knowledge and experience that can't be rivaled. Their willingness to help is unmatched.
It's just a great place.
Welcome!

Welcome aboard and I go around the neighbor hood the night before garbage day and check old firniture. I collect hard wear, and mdf for jigs. That way I can spend more money on good wood and tools.

I would suppose MDF for stability, if needed for a one-time deal just what is handy in the scrap box. I think I will be keeping more and more of my jigs because you never know and as Patton said "I don't beleive in fighting for the same ground twice" or something like that.

I may make an MDF template, test it then use it to make a Polycarbonate master template. I find that the MDF wears and tears. Especially when hot glued or double sided taped to the job. I design all my templates in CAD. Quicker and easier to change. Just print another one. I have access to a CAM, but as it messed up a handle template one, I do not use it. I will have access to a 30watt Laser Cutter, CAD to LaserCAM seems a good idea.
