Hitachi m12V Troubleshooting

I am trying to resolve a problem I am having with my Hitachi M12V using bushing templates and my Leigh D24 Dovetail Jig. The problem I am encountering is that the router bit is not centered within the bushing. When using the Leigh jig if the bit is not centered the dovetails are 'Sloppy" . I did borrow a porter cable router and I was able to make the DT just fine.

If anyone has any advice (other than getting a new router - which I am considering) it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Peter

A new router for the job would be best..you don't need a tank of a router to put in dovetails,, I would suggest a Bosch Colt for the job with the add on plate to take on the brass guides...it has all the power you will need plus some :) plus it has a VS control device that you will like I'm sure.

You said that you used a PC router that is also a bit over kill for putting in dovetails, after all you are going 3/8" deep the norm.. :)

Or pickup the base plate it fit all most all routers :),quick and easy fix

Thanks for the suggestion. I am using the mounting bracket that came with the router along with the Freud template bushing guides. I have thought about purchasing an after market router plate (Lee Valley) and trying that. However, how much time does one commit to fixing a problem accompanied with rural living (I am 1 1/2 hrs from Halifax).

Can you use bits with guide bearings instead of the bushings?
You should make sure you bushing and the bushing adapter are centered as near as they can be. My M12 had a fair amount of play in the bushing adapter.
If cost is not a factor, I would get a fixed base router to dedicate to the jig, my preference would be a Milwaukee 5615 or the like.
