Do I have a lemon?

My dad gave me his FT2000 years ago and it has been a very good tool. I've only had to replace the shaft bearing on it. Didn't like using a plunge for table mount so I bought the FT1700 VCE a while back when it was pretty new to the market I think-Couple of years ago. I am wondering if I got a lemon or if Freud's quality has gone down. When I first went to use it I found the collet threads were not well debured and had to clean them up to get them to work. Next the mechanism that engages the heighth adjustment screw didn't work properly. I took it apart and after some time with a diamond stone on the steel part and an ignition file on the plastic groove that it rides in I was able to make it work OK. I Was also disappointed to find no fine adjustment on the plunge base even though It was abviously designed for it. It was free though. Now the electronic speed-load control seems to have failed. When I start it the speed goes up and down over and over and over. I tried routing a 1/2 X 1/8 rabbet and it almost stalled. Needless to say I am, to say the least, very disappointed with this particular machine. I'm sure it would still be under the waranty if I had the reciept that is. Now I am not sure wheather to go to the expense of sending it to get repaired or not.
I was so pleased with my FT2000 I had expected more of this one. Perhaps as I said maybe I got a lemon. Has anyone had similar problems with the FT1700VCE?
This is my first real post and I don't normally whine so much. Sorry, just frustrated I guess.
