I'm from New Orleans and I'm trying to route my own interior trim work for my new home. The home I had was basically made from cypress, ashame to see it go. So I'm trying to find direction for a site that can give me some great ideas for makeing my own trim using my new portor cable router. Trying to keep that old feeling that was in many homes in this area. Just don't want the same trim everyone has that is purchased from a store.
Any one out there that can direct me to find simple but very different ways to make door trim and window trim. I'm definately going to have plint blocks and headers above doors.
Welcome Jeff. Ditto on the table setup. I make all my own trim for my customers. You can make a simple, cheap router table, add a few featherboards and some bits then you can pound out hundreds of feet of trim....heck, I even make my own plinth and base blocks....but need a drill press for the plinth blocks. The cutters are available in different sizes.
Sky's the limit.....crown, reed, flute, etc....you name it, you can make it. "signature" mouldings, using two or more bits are as cool as it gets. Just make sure your table and/or extensions are long enough to handle the length of wood you are routing.
Hello, and welcome, Jeff: One thing to check out is cutting a molding edge on a 1 X 6 " stock, and cutting that piece off with the table saw. It is easier to handle that way, and guards against accidents. Chose the profile you like , and play with that profile a bit before starting the actual woodwork
Thks Howard will fill out the intro feeling my way around this system. I'll keep playing with bits.
