I have a chance to buy a P-C 693 plunge router.
Can a fixed base be put on the 693 essentially making it a 690, or is the 693 actually a 690 with the plunge base added?

Thanks
Dennis

Hi Doug

You have real quick fingers today :)

========

the motor for the 693 and 690 are the same. You can get a fixed base or a D-handle base for it. They aren't the cheapest, Porter Cable 1001-P Replacement Base for Fixed Base Routers | ToolBarn.com Sometimes you can find a whole second router for the same on Craigslist. Porter Cable router

Porter Cable plunge router combo

They're good routers, I have a 693. Way back when I bought it I chose the plunge base instead of the fixed base for versatility.

Hi

" Each forum member will have his own opinion"

Don't take the springs out :)

You can drop the motor out of the bottom of the table easy and switch out the bits easy..once you take the springs out ,that's it ,will not plunge (lift up easy) any more, for many of your hand jobs..:)

Hi Dennis: I have the same router, the motor will fit all the bases. I have the 693 plunge and I bought a "D" handle base. It's a matter of how comfortable you are with the bases. If the price is right and the machine is in good condition go for it.
Hope this helps your decision, Woodnut65
