Hello

I'm looking at making a bunch of baseboard trim for my home. I already have plenty of popular stock on hand for the wood.

I had a craftsman router/table combo about 10 yrs ago that I never liked the table top on the few projects I did on it. I sold that unit about 5 years ago.

Now that I need a router again. I find a NIB Milwaukee plunge/fixed combo for an asking price of $140

Or I can get another sears combo for $130

I go with the milwaukee I'm spending another $150 or so on a table ( I dont have time to make one) Unless I just get a top and mount it on my Workmate stand.

Ahh decisions.

Chris...

I've got a craftsman combo setup and to tell ya the truth, it works just fine, not to mention it lends itself to being quite versitile. You'll find alot of folks in here are very fond of the craftsman line of routers of late. It seems they have improved upon the quilaity of the units considerably in the past few years. If you're looking for the biggest bang for your buck, I'd swing with the craftsman...

Just another opinion..*s*

Chris,
Since all the craftsman I have are the old routers, and they suck, I'll let the others tell you which router is best. But I will suggest you not buy another cheap table, unless you are very certain this is the only time you will use it. As you stated, a piece of plywood on some sawhorses will work for this job. Then as time allows build a table you will be happy with. Just my 2c

Craftsman Routers

Hi Chris,
I have 4 router tables and I have Craftsman routers and Bosch Routers. Several of my Craftsman routers are 25 - 30 years old, my Bosch Routers are quite new. It is my experience that you get more bang for your buck with Craftsman. I guess they always give me the good Craftsman products because I don't have the bad experiences with Craftsman like some other people have. I worked in an auto dealership during High School and they taught me to clean your tools and take care of them before you put them away. I follow that rule with my woodworking tools and they take care of me.

I am a fan of the Milwaukee routers. I do not have any experience with the current Craftsman routers. A piece of MDF on your Workmate will work for a router table for making base board.
One question, won't you still have to buy a table if you buy the Craftsman kit?
