Freud Router

Hi,

Just bought a Freud FT2200VCE router with table, and am experiencing a problem.
Actually had the smaller model previously with the Freud table and was able to change bits above the table. The new, larger router and table doesn't seem to provide that feature - very inconvenient! Research on the Web seems to indicate that a third-party add-on is necessary (i.e.: Router Raizer). Can this be true? Why doesn't Freud just make it possible to change a bit that's mounted to their table without having to remove the router?
Anybody else have this frustrating experience?
Thanks for your time and interest.

Hi Patrick,

I use the exact same setup and have been pretty happy, even with heavy use. I do not remove the machine from the table, but rather just crank the unit down just low enough to get in from under the table and undo the bits. Granted, not the most convenient method, but I still consider this one of the best set-ups for the buck. By the way, I do not remove the base from the router when mounting to the table either, the screws provided are long enough to work fine with the base on. If you are uncomfortable with the number of threads engaged, the next length is also readily available, but I haven't bothered and have put many hours on that way.

Just so you all know the Freud RTS5300 router table with the FT3000VCE will be on sale in January for 399.99 at Woodcraft. I work at a Woodcraft store here in Colorado and am leaking the information early, and yes this will be at all Woodcraft locations while supplies last. I picked one up myself yesterday, employee perk :). It dose have the above the table adjustment, the only thing I had to add was a power switch on the table, instead of having to pull the trigger under the table. From what I have researched this is a hell of a deal.
