Hi Folks

My name is John and I am based in the UK.
I retired 9 months ago and decided to combine my artistic side with some woodworking. I have always been keen on working with wood, but have mainly forgotten the skills required. So back to the steep learning curve.

I invested in a router (hand held) and then realised it's limitations. So I purchased a router and table and started making a few bits. Very satisfying, but I realised that I need some prompting and assistance to get the best out of the tool. Hence my reason for joining your elite band. Hopefully the tips, questions and answers will extend my knowledge and experience.

Just a small tip for you all. Many folks are putting down wood floors, either strip or parquet. They are usually in hardwood, oak, mahogany etc - all very expensive to buy from the timber yard. (£45 sqm) And guess what? They usually have some left over. Have a look on Ebay etc. I picked up 5 sq metres for under £10 of oak hardwood blocks that are just great for making jigsaws, small boxes, bird houses etc. Most of the cutting is done and the blocks are a good uniform size.

Now I,m in trouble - dinner is nearly ready, and I was supposed to lay the table. - bye.

Welcome to the forume John. If you need insperation stop over to harrods and check out the cigar boxes. Don't buy them or your wood working budget will be wrecked.
