I have a older (+- 10yrs.) PC7538 which has never been used and would like to make it a VS unit. I looked into a speed controller but stated not to use on a "soft start" router. Are there any new speed controller's out there that will work with a PC7538?
To electrically remove the module, one could do the following: Disconnect the two black leads on the module and short them together (small Marr connector.)
This would make the router a full-speed only and thus make it compatible to an after-market speed controller.
Not sure whether the router would survive long if used as a full-speed only (no speed controller.) As long as there's a soft-start or a decent speed controller, then the router should be okay.
It can be done but at the risk and life of the brushes and contacts. the new soft start models have a differnt set of brushes to start with.
