Question Router Fences

  1. Hello,
  2. I'm Cal Perry, and I would like to introduce myself. I am retired and woodworking is one of my hobbies. My goal is to make a nice hope chest for each of my six granddaughters.
  3. I have a good heavy-duty router and a set of bits to make raised-panel doors. My main concern is to have a good, durable fence system to accommodate these heavy router bits. Initially, I made raised-panel doors from laminated pine for my shop cabinets using these bits, and I was not happy with my fence system, although the doors turned out just fine.
  4. I am interested in making my fences from poly material, and I would like to locate a supplier.
  5. Thanks,
  6. Cal

Hi Cal:

There's some other stuff we need to know. Did you make your table yourself or did you buy it? Do you use the OakPark/Router Workshop philosophy or someone else's?

I made my own table. I use OakPark baseplates and template guides. I also make my own fences but from jointed 2x4s and chunks of maple and I have a tall fence made from scrap 3/4" plywood. I wouldn't change anything for the world, well, maybe the table top will be changed shortly to accommodate skis, oh yes and I'll have to put in a new baseplate pocket because mine are set diagonally to the table which is not a good idea... and that's just a few of the things I don't like on this table at the moment, maybe.... but then if I get that other router I was looking at, maybe

Hi Cal - Welcome to the forum

Would help some to know what type of fence arrangement you are now using and just exactly what you are dissatisfied with. Get us all started on the same page so to speak.
As far as a supplier for poly material, depends somewhat on what part of the states you are located in. Several internet suppliers on line but shipping on the stuff can get out of line real quick. If we can find someone local to you it could help a great deal.

John Schaben

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.
