Default 315.17380 collet

I just started to clean up an old Craftsman router 315.17380 and I am not sure but is the collet suppose to be able to come out? Also it looks like there should be some type of snap ring around the top of it. Is that true and if so what was it designed to do? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, there is a spring clip (cir-clip??) on the collet. Not sure of the correct name, but it is a round spring clip. Check here in the 315-17380 manual and you will see what it looks like.
