Default Welcome to the... Router Limits!

Greetings to fellow Router Limits entities!
I'm a guitarist whose endless need to tinker with things has led me to attempt making my own amplifier enclosures. Or at least repair old ones. Or make replacement ones that don't weigh so darn much; I hate MDF, they're all made of MDF these days. After lurking about and watching umpteen ways to make finger joints, I decided the most appealing (to me anyway) was the table saw jig with a single "tooth"... but I don't have and don't have any plans to buy a table saw. No room anyway. #2 most appealing was the router and jig method. That I should be able to handle, I have had my Porter Cable 690 for about ten years and used it for modest things like rounding off corners and routing channels in pine to support simple shelf units.
I have questions, but I will post them in the other sections.

It seemed in my day that amps were made of pressed paper with some sort of cheap vinyl covering with a tin dial plate. At least if you dropped your MDF versions, they don't mushroom. Alternatively they were made of some sort of ultra cheap box wood, "wood" used to ship stuff from Japan in our day and perhaps China today. Cheap is being generous.

Perhaps MDF ain't so bad after all. However, beautiful, unique fine hardwood versions are also acceptable. Take your pick.
