Default router bits

hi juys
just a quick question?
does anyone know how deep do i place the bit inside the collet????

I would say all the way to the bottom of the collet then pull out about 1/16".
You could add a rubber grommet to the collet this way you don't pull out any more just push the bit all the way and lock the collet ,the grommet will give you that 1/16" space in the bottom.

Hi Leon, Ken is pretty much right on about dropping it in and pulling it back out about a 1/16". The rubber grommet idea generally works pretty well but I will say I have some larger bits that the grommet will leave an uncomfortable (for me) amount of shank showing. I also have some shorter bits that won't quite make the depth of cut I need, especially on the table, so I will pull them up a bit. In NO case will I have less than about 90% of the shank in the collet. Hope this helps
