Smile router plate mounted in homemade benchtop

should i buy a metal pre manufactured plate or make my own--if so what type of material?

Metal NO, router bits and steel/Alum. don't play well together ,,it's hard to make a good one for 15.oo bucks..

I wish I could get that same plate for that money - over they are nearly 80 bucks.
I paid 58 plus postage to get one from UK.
