Default When it seems to good to be true....

I've been thinking about buying a Dewalt DW625 and saw this one on ebay Dewalt DW625 HD 3HP VS ElectronicPlunge Router - eBay (item 300474255228 end time Oct-28-10 18:46:48 PDT)

Was just about ready to hit the buy it now but I decided to check the shipping: 149.99!!!! Same price for the router and the shipping so its a total of $300!!! Easy to miss the screw job that way. What a con. Be careful out there!

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim - Thanks for the head up. Looks like the guy likes to do that. Freud SD408 Dado Set -$99, shipping $99; Multimedia projector $249 - shipping $210.
For the most part, I think eBay is pretty decent but there are always a few around....

Default But the REALLY BAD NEWS is...

if you decide you don't like it... you're responsible for return shipping plus a 15% restocking fee... DANG>>> I wonder is he is related to Bernie Madoff???

Just for grins I sent the seller a question saying the shipping seemed a bit steep and asking his policy on local pick up. Will be interesting to see how or if he responds.

Make sure you report those sellers, ebay has a check box for excessive shipping.

It would be fun to ask for an explaination of the shipping charges....

Here is his reply:

The Warehouse is in PA. and they dont do pick-ups. Shiping is higher so I can lower my retail. I lower my retail to beat eBays high % fees on the price(eBay does not charge % on the shipping, paypal charges on both retail and shipping). If I listed it as $300/free shipping I would get hit 40.90 from ebay and another $30 from paypal putting me deep in the hole on the sale. So this is how I keep my head above water and give the customer the best possible deal I can give. $299.98 for this router is really cheap. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Well, that's an entirely reasonable explanation. Since I'm new I can't post an active link yet. Try this though: amazon.com/DEWALT-DW625-3-Horsepower-Variable-Electronic/dp/B000051WQW

Fees quoted sounded kinda steep to me... 13% to eBay and 10% to Paypal so I did a bit of googling.

According to my figuring eBay would take $27 and paypal about $9 or less. Didn't check paypal to find out the 1.9-2.9% was all about.

By the way $299.98 isn't all that great a price anyway:

Hi Guys

I don't get it , it's very simple if you like the item and you have read the add and you like the deal bid if not keep looking, many eBay sellers use that trick..it's to bad but that's eBay..
