Default Track lighting router groove

A friend wants me to make him an oval poker table. Just under the padded outside rail he wants track lighting with a plexi diffuser . I can not come up with a good way to route a consistent 1/8 groove to set the plexi in. guide will not be accurate around the oval. I can make a smaller wood oval template double tape down for my router offset, but would use good ply and probably never use the template again. Any suggestions other than forgetting the router and trying another way to make diffuser stable. Thanks

Absent an oval template drawn from the same dual centers as the table, I think it would be difficult to get the groove exactly concentric with the edge of the table. But, you might come close by using an edge guide, keeping the face of the edge guide perpendicular to the radial lines of the oval. Another approach would be to attach two rounded protrusions to the face of the edge guide, so they would track around the arc.
