Default Newbie, Box Help.

Ok let me start off by saying hi to you all. I am from the UK and I am 18.

Now thats out of the way, I want to make a box (sounds simple) but I want to make it out of a solid block of wood (probably Oak or Walnut) after talking to some people they said it would be best to use a router (hence why I chose this forum).

This is what I want it to look like (without being to picky). I am not the greatest person in the world with wood, but I would like to improve my skills and was wondering it you could give me some ideas as how to start.

mainly the lid I need help with, the holes I will use a Forstner drill bit I think would be best (maybe I am wrong)

I will practise by making other things first and trying techniques on different items but this is my ultimate goal.

Thanks in advance. Pete

I'd use a template and guide bushing to rout out the center of the lid, essentially following the same procedure used in making trays, and such.

You may want to look at bandsawn boxes. Use google. The cartridges holes can be made with a drill press but a router could do that also.
