Default Hitachi M12V2

Hi all, newbie here but glad I found this forum.
I just opened the box on Hitachi M12V2 router. It should take 1/2 in bits but I can't get one to go in the collet. Any step I might be missing as I don't want to try to force one in.
Thanks in advance, MSUfan

Welcome......Does it have 2 collets , most routers do one 1/4" and one 1/2" look to see if Ya gotta change the collet.... If this is not the case check and make sure the lock is engaging allowing the unit to loosen and tighten all the way .... Good Luck

G’day

Welcome to the router forum.

Thank you for joining us

Check that you do not have another collet in a plastic bag in the box.

The 1/4" collet may be on the router.

Might be you got a 12 mm collet instead of 1/2". Take a caliper to it. 12 mm would caliper out to around .47", half inch would be .500"

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

If it will accept 1/4" bits you need to remove the 1/4 " adapter from the collet loosen the collet and it should slide out.

Thanks so much for all the replies. Finally figured out the problem, the collet was stuck in the shaft and wasn't coming out with the nut. Didn't know it was supposed to come out till I got to comparing the 1/4 collet and how it fits with the nut. Sometimes it takes me a while for the obvious to thump me on the forehead. Had this router 4 years or so, just now taking it out of the box.
Thanks again for all the help, looking forward to learning a lot here.
