Default Craftsman router 175060

I have a Craftsman router 175060. Most parts are no longer available. Turned it on. Got up to speed. Started going up and down (speed and light). After stopping and restarting 3 or4 times, it will not start. Every once in a while, I can get it to rotated about 1/8 to 1/4 inch when I push in the switch. I can rotate the shaft and knock on the side and it will usually do this. Once it tries to turn, it will not move again until I rotate the shaft and tap on the side. Hoping it might be brushes that are getting stuck. Tested the switch and it is ok. Power is transferring thru it wil I push the switch in. The switch, armature, and most of the other "61 parts" are no longer available. Tried to take it apart to check the armature and brushes. Can't figure out how to take the fan off of the top of the unit after I take off the top cover. Looks like it has a tiny pin in the middle of the fan. It is not a screw and tried to push it in but it won't move. The top cover on the motor will pull up a little bit all the way around and may be able to come over the fan. The lock switch/slide looks/acts like it has to be removed before the top will come off to allow access to the armature, brushes, etc. Does anyone know how to remove the lock switch and/or fan?

Thanks fopr your help.

Hi gp - Welcome to the forum

I just took a look at the parts explode on Searspartsdirect.com, sorry, forgot to copy the URL, and it looks like the brushes are on the other end of the motor than the fan. The print is pretty badly pixelated and not very clear but I think you are on the right track in removing the lock switch and top. If you can get those off I think you will be home free.

The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

Thanks, I think you are right but I can't figure out how to get it lock off. I had the same problem with the exploded view. Can't tell much about it. Probably by design.

Have a great day.

Hi - took another look at the parts explode. Oh, here's the URL:

Looks to me like the cap should just come right off after your remove the three screws, item 1.
Item 4 is listed as a "Retaining clip" which looks like it is holding items 6 and 8, button and slide assembly respectively. The slide looks like it has a keyhole slot which probably engages the armature shaft to act as a spindle lock.
I don't understand why you can't get that top cap off. The artwork doesn't show it surrounding the lock button. Are you getting the right screws off?
