Default Replacing the 7518 Porter Cable Speed Control

Has anyone replaced the speed control in their PC 7518 router? Mine appears bad (speed fluctuates significantly during routing) and I'm wondering if this have to go to a repair shop or is something I can do myself. The router is out of warranty and I am experienced in electrical repair.

Thanks much, Harold

bearings will make that happen too.. rare though...
if it is the speed control's that something you may be able to do...

Thanks; I should have thought of that, but didn't. A likely source of the problem and easy/cheap fix. Harold

Howdy Harold and welcome. If you do determine it is the speed control you are probably better off looking for a remote speed control. Many people had rather have the control mounted to their table where it is easy to access. I can't recommend any controls, but I have seen several recommendations for the Harbor Freight unit, which is on sale now. The reviews are just as good as the Rockler unit, which cost almost 3 times as much.
