Default Woodworking Tools

My Great Uncle owned what was at one time the largest wooden shipbuilding yard on the East Coast. Therefore wooden boats fit well in my background and reading, but practical use no longer.
Recently I have been reading from a book called “Skiffs and Schooners” by Pete Culler. He was a Master Craftsman, Boat Designer, Builder, Repairer, and Sailer. That said, in his writings he had words of wisdom about tools.
This was written 1974, his focus was on boat/shipbuilding, but it certainly still applies today to any woodworker.

Thanks for posting Bob, I just love the old wooden boats, built a few small one in my earlier life. I agree 100% on the bandsaw comment, but do like and use my table saw a lot.

Thanks Bob, I found it very interesting. My Dad was a stickler for looking after the few hand tools he had and somewhere along the way I picked up on that. Recently I've bought some high quality tools and the difference is considerable.
Thanks, Kerry
