Default First router

Hi all, My wife bought me the skil 1825 as a starter & I am unable to put the 1/4" bits & tighten. It appears to have the 1/2 " collet inside. I read the manual several times to no avail. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi outbacker

Try this , pull out the user manual out one more time and go to the page(s) for the parts list,,,,,( in the back) go down the list and look for the item called collet or adaptor something like that,,,,go by part by part if you don't find the item in the box take it to the store and tell them you didn't get one and I'm sure they will give you one so you can use 1/4" shank router bits..

It should look something like the one below..

outbacker, Welcome to the forums!
Here is the PDF owners manual. Check on page 9 fig. 6 and it shows you should have an adapter sleeve. Also here is the parts list info:

Item #655, Qty. 1, Order #2 610 915 608, Description: ADAPTER

I found this info on skiltools.com.

Hi outbacker

You'er Welcome BUT put the hammer back in the tool box..

Take the collet nut off all the way then push it place,,,it's should be tight but not so tight you need a hammer to put it in place...

Tap it with your hand but that's all, so it just slips in..
