Default Locking Miter

I finally got my Katana Locking Miter bit and so far have gone thru about a truck load of scraps. Not really but have gotten the thing to work...I LIKE it.
Question, how do you make a locking miter joint on a picture frame? I just can't seem to get the orientation right on the corners. This is where I produced most of the "lil dinky scraps" (LDS).
Thanks,
George II

Hi George II

The normal Locking Miter bit is to big the norm for picture frames but you can get a baby Locking Miter bit that will do the trick, but it's not made to do that, and it's a hard one to set up right..
I would suggest you use a spline joint on the picture fames...

You can make a quick jig to do just that,, if you want to see one just ask and I will post one..that you can use on the router table...

Here's just one way George

Hi George II

Just click on the link in post number #2 (above) and it will take you to the jig..

It's a real easy one to make, plus it works on just about all picture frames,,
or just about any 45 deg. joint..
Just a note****you don't need to use the saw blade if you don't want to ,a slot cutter will do the job just fine... just remove the bearing off the slot cutter bit..
