Few companies listen to their customers the way Musclechuck does. On request an extended version of the Type 1 is now available. The new Musclechuck Type 1E is 1/2" longer than the standard Type 1. In comparison to the factory collet/nut this is about an additional 1-1/8" of reach. That should be enough reach for most tray templates without an extension.
Great idea. One question, how does the diameter of the collet, including the set screw compare to the diameter of the bearing on the majority of bowl bits? The diameter of my original Musclechuck for example is significantly larger than the bearings on both my bowl bits.
Now that makes it more tempting to buy one. Not having to buy an extension helps absorb the price of the MC. After buying my new table saw I am going on food stamps. :|
Bad news, although the 1E has the height for bowl and tray templates the diameter is too large. At this time the largest diameter bowl and tray bit offered is 1-1/4". These bits have a 1/4" radius. Infinity Tool offers an extension with an OD of .118" that is designed to work with these bits. The Xtreme Xtension measures .135" and to clear the screw the Musclechuck would require a bit with a 1-1/2" diameter.
I am going to get on the phone and see about getting a bit manufactured with this diameter.
