This is the 'Smelter sword' from the game Dark Souls 2 that some guy asked me to make. It's huge at six feet long and about twelve inches wide at its widest point. The whole thing consists of five separate parts, the main body, side horns (x2) and side body (x2).
I cut the main body using a two part MDF template, as I couldn't find a six foot long piece of MDF. I cut the horns and side pieces separately, then glued them on later, though next time I will probably cut the horns out after edge joining pieces to the main body instead of after cutting the horn shape.
I love using router templates! In the past I would have had to measure and cut all these pieces all over again if I wanted to make another sword, but now all I need to do is use the templates! As I gain more skill and experience using my double bearing flush cut bit, this process gets easier and easier!
