Default Dovetail Jigs

Hi....
My name is Ed from Swanton, Vt now living in Piperon TN.
I'm an novice woodworker thinking of making Dovetailed Hope Chests
for my two Granddaughters. I've never used nor seen a Dovetail Jig
used and am considering buying one but am not sure which one to buy.
Perhaps some of you pro's would like to give me a little advice.

Welcome. A good all-around jig is the Porter Cable 4212. You can use its template mounted in the base or remove them and attach to blocks and use like the MLCS or Keller jigs including on the router table.

No matter what, a good video to watch can be found at Woodworking Online (The Woodsmith Store guys). Browse the site until you find the one on dovetail jigs.

You can go cheaper than the PC4212 and you can go more expensive. Got a budget in mind?

Welcome Edward! You may want to visit this thread for a lot of opinions on that very subject.

Hi Ed

Putting that many dovetails in place can be tricky, you may want to think about putting some big dovetails in place..

with the jig below you would use a 3/4" dovetail bit..that makes the job essayer ,you can use your router table or your hand router..and not brake the bank for the template..

see below

Large Through Templates
Includes: 16" long template with 1" wide tails and 2" on center, plus 2 FREE router bits and 5/8" guide bushing.
see video on the same web page..
