Default Dream turned nightmare

I am wondering if there is such a machine now days as a "doweling machine"...the place I use to work had one; motor/belt driven...foot peddle that you would step on and the
horizontal bit would be pushed forward into your rail etc...matched up by a pencil mark that you placed on the face frame pieces before you glued and doweled them together....

Welcome Jerry!

Yes, I've been in a number of shops that use doweling machines.

My shop isn't large enough to afford one so I just use my little doweling jig as needed.

ShopSmith will do horizontal boring. I have seen demos and it seems quite easy to setup

One tool for both jobs (doweling and slots )
JessEm Zip Slot Mortise Mill - YouTube

OR you can make one like HarrySin did that he just steps on.

Hi Jerry

There's always the portable option, by Mafell. I believe that these are/were sold in the USA by Hoffman. I've tried them and they work. Cheap to run, too, for carcassing, etc

Regards

Phil

Thanks for all the replys. Mike the Jessum jig looks like it woule reverse that nightmare. A shade pricey, but when you think about it, so is everything else. So it probably is not out of line for what it does. Now to match my skills with the demo. {another nightmare}
