Rick, the design of the feather boards are not nearly as important as having them adjusted with the right pressure. Too little and they do not hold the wood down or against the fence.(Depending on how you are using them) Too much pressure and the wood is difficult to move which will result in burning. As a general rule feather boards are only required on long pieces.(Yes, there are exceptions) For most routing a good push stick which also holds the wood down is the best choice.
