Smile six sided box

This box started out to be a 3 sided box I soon found out that when i set my saw at what i thought was a 30 degree cut was in effect a 60 degree angle, but anyway a box was made, i had put a inlay strip on the zebrawood before the box was put together,& i had some maple to make the sides, for the top i used maple burl & put brass pin hinges on the back, the finish was shellac on the inside & a wipe-on poly for the outside.I guess i'll have to make a jig to cut a 30 degree angle for the 3 sided box !

Hi John

Very nice box ,, here's a way to cut a 3 side box it's tricky, but not to bad on the chop saw,,,the key is to make one cut on a 3" x 3" x 8" block and then clamp it in the chop and then use the block to cut the rest of the parts for the box.. see link below ..

John,

I think that is one error that worked in your favor.

Great Box!

Hi Deb,

If only I could make mistakes like that. Great job and good luck on the triangle box.

That is one outstanding box, I like the finish and the burl top.
