Default More proud dad moments- snowmen turning

The youngest is busy making her Christmas presents this year, and is turning snowmen. This year the lathe is mounted on the cabinet I restored under this post

https://www.routerforums.com/kp91s-g...ml#post1975789

We adjusted things a little go the late at about a perfect height for her and it seems to be working well.

She's running a little behind, so we cheated and started with 2 inch dowels from Home Depot and Lowes. The Lowes dowels are solid poplar, and the HD dowels are actually glued up from 2 pieces of something that looks like pine. We dug through the pile of them and found one with a very close grain and it seems to turn OK.

She is still working on her technique, and remembering to touch up the tools every so often, but she is knocking these out in pretty short order. I think the target for this year is 12, Hopefully they will all be ready for paint by Sunday!

**the funny looking helmet is her Powered Air Respirator. She has asthma, and this unit has been a lifesaver for her in the shop. It is an old 3M unit designed for dust and paint fumes, and works like a charm. It may not be as 'cool looking' as the newer versions, but for the price I was able to get if for it's perfect**

We are ultimately judged by how the future looks back upon us....and if it is with a smile, it has been a life well lived.

A gentlemanly tip of the hat to ya Doug! Well done!!

The snowmen are very good. The respirator is a great idea for her plus the safety factor of the face mask itself. I have asthma but nothing in the shop affects it. If I get into a lot of dust without a dust mask, I get two things- plugged up sinuses and a lecture from SWMBO.

One more reason not to like HD.

Look like snowmen to me. She's doing good. Make and sell stuff like that would be a good way for her to make some $.

Sounds like she knows what she wants, and is quite independent.
