Default Cutting board design software

Through Google I came across the software package CBdesigner which has been discussed on Lumberjocks and thought perhaps it might be of some interest here. The direct website is CBdesigner

I have worked with it a bit and found it to be a reasonable approach to designing checkerboard style CBs . Has any one on this forum worked with the package and/or found similar packages on the net to be of value. Obviously it is not up to sketch up standards but still interesting in its own right.

It's how I run my shop. Almost everything is designed in that software.

CBDesigner is freeware, but don't neglect the programmer. After I started using it, I made a $25 contribution to the author. He wrote to thank me, saying that no one had ever given him that much before. I should give him more.

After all, I make cutting boards. You bet I use this software. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is the best solution I have found.

The picture is of the clipboards that hang by the table saw, holding the designs I've made in CBDesigner 2 that tell me what to create next.

Pictured are a custom order that was in process, on the left. I'm not sure what the heck is on the right. I don't make boards that look like that. Do I?

@rrrun

Appreciate the review. If the package continues to be of use to me I'll certainly spiff the developer.

One addition I would like to see to the package is the capability to slide the end cuts past one another on the horizontal axis.

Interesting. I don't make cutting boards, but if I did I would just google a bunch of stuff, for inspiration, then make a design of my own.

But did find this a few days ago, and saved it, looking for something totally different, of course.

I've been using the software for about a year and a half. I find it very useful. It does have its limitations but for all of the edge grain and end grain boards that I've made it had been a big help. Once you're finished with the design it prints out a bill of materials. Saves a lot of calculations and the occasional uh-oh. Twice I've found out that I didn't have enough wood for the board that I wanted to make. I've looked for other cutting board specific software but this is the best i've found.

I know this is an old thread but looking to see if someone has any templates for CB-Designer? Some various templates would go along way in speeding up the learning curve for creating different designs. Thanks for any help someone can provide.

Welcome to the forum, Timmy! Head over to the introduction area and tell us a little about yourself, shop, projects, etc.

Then start a new thread asking your question and you'll likely get more responses.

@timmyd

Unfortunately I do not have any. The majority of the designs i’ve used recently have been put together by SWMBO to reflect her quilting interest. Works well since most of them have gone to her quilting buddies.
.
I would take David’s suggestion re starting a new thread.
