Question How time flies.....

I was just looking at today's birthdays and noticed that all those who had a birthday had not been active for some years.

Made me wonder why?

Even BigJimAK had not been on for at least 3 years....

Has the forum changed so much in the last couple of years?

James as you know I have been checking birthdays daily for quite awhile now and it appears to be the norm. Would have to imagine quite a few are deceased but I suppose it helps the inflated member numbers of the forum. Just my thoughts.

It may be in part to do with the advent of CNC routing.

Some days now that folder has more than 50% of all posts. I dont have one and am not going to, so i rarely look.
That leads to less interest from "old fashioned" woodworkers, which in turn leads to less postings.

My own postings are well down now on even a year ago.

I've been in a senior group since 2004, and we've had something like 60 members pass away during that time. That's life as a senior, people check out. And I think the nature of the members has shifted more and more to CNC. You get busy, family calls, change is the only constant.

I'm one of the longest standing members who is still active. I am a hobbyist woodworker, an amateur in the true sense of the word; not a professional. I do take it as a personal challenge to do work of the quality of a professional woodworking "artist", not a "I did the work you paid for" type. Certainly there are all the issues of life, including members passing away, interests change, (I can think of at least two for whom that applies). The vast expansion of CNC is certainly another issue.

But, especially after the "de-Resendahlization" of RouterForums there has been a change in the general tone. Somehow it seems less friendly and at times even seems competitive, who can top who.

  • Wood working, especially router work is too much fun to let "disabilities" get in the way.
