Default Anyone else lost money at an ATM machine ?

If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have none at all .
Last week I was at a local convenience store , and went to get some cash from there ATM machine .
Well normally I take out $100, but I get tired of going back, so on occasion I get $200 instead .
Well the machine acted a little strange , as it seemed to hesitate more that usual as it was doing the transaction.
I here a bunch of shuffling inside it , and then it says remove your card and cash .
Spits out a receipt for $203 , as it charges you $3 for the transaction.

The bad news , there was no money!
I phoned the help number on the ATM machine , and the women tells me I must get my bank to look into it , as the withdrawal came from my bank .
Just a heads up , this ATM is not the same bank as mine .
So I go to my bank to verify that it was debited from my account, and there was in fact $203 removed from my account .
I take the two slips showing the transactions to the bank across the street from the convenience store that is the same bank as the ATM , and they tell me I must get my bank to launch an investigation , because it came out of my account.
But when I go to my bank , they tell me they cannot do an investigation into there system , so they must do it .

In other words , I’m not getting my money!
So user beware , I’m pretty sure if you use an ATM at your local bank , there won’t be any issues if there’s a screw up , but if your using a third party machine at a store etc , you may get screwed as I did .

I hate the parking at my bank , so as much as I hate paying the $3 transaction fee elsewhere , it’s worth the headache sometimes. But not this time .
For now on, I’m going into my bank and getting a teller to get my cash , as I’m not using ATM machines period!
When the teller asks my why I’m bugging her and not using the ATM, I’ll tell her that I get a bad taste in my mouth from using them , as I’m not to keen on using them after losing over $200 recently

I'd bet that there's $200 laying in that machine. Take a sledge and an axe to it. I'd suggest a metal cutting band saw but....well, you know.

Rick you are buying money from that ATM because they charge you $3. You should be able to get your money back. They can do an inspection on that ATM and tell if not telling the truth. I would push it to the limit because you are wright.

The third time I went to talk to the manager at the bank that has there name on the ATM , she came stomping out of the back room with a piece of paper with bold printing on it .
It went something like this . Quote: In no way shape or form do we refund money or do an investigation on second party ATM’s .

The sad part is , there’s dozens of cameras in the store , yet they claim nothings pointed at the ATM?
I’m starting to think there’s something nafarious going on here , and it’s more of an investigation for the RCMP than anything.
But with my luck ,instead of trying to help me , they’ll charge me with fraud or something. It may be better to walk away and take the hit .
I was thinking about getting a news channel like CBC in Calgary involved , as maybe they can get some action after they shame these POS banks on public TV.

My friend told me I should have tried for another $20 , as maybe the machine jammed up and the next guy got my money . I’ll always wonder about that

You need to be like the proverbial dog with a bone on this one, Rick. You are owed the money and you will get it if you persist.

If eating carrots improves the eyesight, how come there are so many dead rabbits on the roads?

Well I recently talked to the asssistant manager at the store . Sheís a very nice lady who knows me well , and sheís going to talk to the guy who services the machine .
Hopefully they find a glitch . The technology this day and age , you would think there should be some evidence in the machine itself .
They should have an internal camera inside the machine . This was it can see for sure whether the money was deposited out of the slot or not .

Good luck. I haven't used an ATM in centuries. Guess why? When in CA, I had three $100 withdrawals on my credit card in Fresno. The bank caught it and called. We weren't even close to Fresno. I don't like it when the server takes the CC out of my sight. Chili's and Olive Garden have the little machines at the table where you can pay.

Yes I believe it’s gone , lesson learned . It’s just to bad it wasn’t $100 instead of $200 .
It was probably a million to one of that happening. With those odds it’s to bad I can’t win the lotto, but can only lose at every turn

Sorry to hear about that Rick, I always go to the tellers to do transactions. I don't like standing in those enclosures at midnight with a guy in a hoody standing behind me.

I thought there was a camera in the machines. You see pictures in newspapers of suspects when they need help with an ID of them.

Someone I consider a master woodworker once told me that a master woodworker is not someone who never makes mistakes. He is someone who is able to cover them up so that no one can tell.
