My wife and I were getting grumbly about the Holidays. Family scattered everywhere, shopping for what...we have so much stuff, but worst of all, my wife's attachment to an old artificial tree that's so ugly I can't stand seeing it again.
Then last week, the spirit hit us, so we went out and bought a really nice, new artificial tree. Hanging all our glittery decorations on it. Won't take it apart for storage, which ruined the old one, so it will have a cover and live the rest of the year in the garden shed. Giving money to charity, no presents for us.
Daughter's living nearby but blind partner doesn't care about decorations, so she can get in the spirit here and we'll feed them. Heck, even putting up lights, but not the way I always have, something new this year, even wrapping the small herd of fake deer so they glow in the dark from internal lights. Found some nifty LED spotlights to illuminate the bare trees that form a little bower in the front yard. Not the same old decorations, and doing this leaves me feeling refreshed.
Hope everyone is having a nice, humbug-free holiday season. Merry Christmas, happy holidays and Chanukah, and to all, a good night.
