Default Tumbleweed Invasion

@DesertRatTom

Hey, Tom, did you survive The Great Tumbleweed Invasion? It sounds like Victorville had a challenge dealing with the invading horde. Tumbleweeds may be unknown to many people here. I think they are a western open-spaces thing and bring back fond memories of my youth.

I have been tearing out every tumble weed the tried to invade my yard for years, so I rarely get them full sized anymore. Good fences keep the big ones out of the back yard, but the front gets a few now and again. I'm more annoyed by the city cutting the large mustard plants a couple of blocks over. The darn things dry out then blow all over the place. Some odd draft sucks them and the entire block's small trash into my front yard. My cardiologist says weeding is probably good exercise for me.

I love this place. Good friends, fits my reclusive side, not overpriced, and we still have Proposition 13. Every time I drive out toward Lucerne Valley, I think of you.

We're on 27 acres here in AZ. Those tumbles, as we call them, can get out of hand pretty quickly. Weeding, while excellent exercise, is out of the question for our expanse. We'd never get finished.
We have a Polaris Ranger..it has a small bed..and, we put a 14 gal. Propylene tank, with a pump and hose sprayer, in the bed. In addition to the tumbles, we have a plethora of other noxious weeds, also. Riding around and spraying them takes about a full day. It gets done about every two weeks...depending on the rains.
We use a mixture of 41% Glysophate and, 2-4D. Seems to do the job but, we must stay vigilant. New ones pop up regularly.

Luckily they arent plague proportions though.

California will figure out a way to deal with them, they will pass a law to protect them.

Gene, doesn't 2-4D fall under the chemical weapons ban? would salt water work?

Herb, I think it's banned in some states. It's sold here in AZ. I buy it at Tractor Supply.

Forgot, Gene, Arizona is one of the last states where a person can live their life to the fullest, even pack a 6 shooter to town.

Or an AK, if you're inclined.

Yeah, but just because you can doesn't mean you should.

California only lets you mention firearms if you whisper it in private, in a dark closet with no one else there. You have to keep them locked up, which has upped sales of fingerprint recognition locks. Only way you can get to them before the bad guy gets to you. But you better not shoot them! Makes me want to think move on occasion, but I have roots down pretty deep here. If you guys could see those daisies flowering like mad in the yard, you might not want to spray either.

Thinking about driving out to Snowflake in May. Let my wife know and she likes the idea. Have to dig up the dates again. Maybe Oliver can pretend he's homesick and get out there for a taste of long ago home? He doesn't have to bring his CNC along.
