Default New laptop

My oldest son thinks I needed a new lap top, the one I use now is a Dell inspiration 5160 that I got some 4 or 5 years ago. The new one is:

Your customized PC includes:

- HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment PC
- Espresso Black
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
- 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4650
- 17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display (1600 x 900)
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam Only
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- No Modem
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Knowing him, if he could build one himself he would. His system he says is obsolete as they all are before they go on the market. His has a liquid cooled processor and video card. At any rate I thought that was nice of him to offer to do that.

Tried talking him into a band saw and drill press but what can I say---I'll try thank you to start.

That sounds good, except for VISTA. I got mine converted to Windows XP so I could understand the system.

Don't mean to sound negative......guess I'm to old to learn anything new.........

Good luck!

If I'm understanding you correctly, Jerry, your son bought this for you?

If so, that's way better than, "Can you buy me a new laptop, Dad?"

My son recently sent me a nice burgundy Snap-on tool cabinet - both the base unit and the top chest.

Combined, they're about 8" wide, 12" tall. and maybe 3" deep. I should have gotten the clue when he said he was sending is USPS.

Jason told me he would convert from Vista to Windows 7, that is what I am running on this laptop. I know it is a beta version but Jason can fix most anything if it is a computer. This guy started out on an old IBM in 1995 or so we upgraded the hard drive and in the process he wiped the wrong disk drive. Lost everything? Nope, he recreated the directory and had everything back. Now before anyone challenges me on this, just remember I am the guy who types faster backward then forward. It in a wonder that I get any thing posted!!

Very nice lappy! Don't worry too much about Vista, it works fine and you get a free upgrade to Windows. Congratulations

Jerry,

I've had my laptop with Vista for about 5 months now. I've had no problems and I'm actually starting to like vista. It just takes a bit to get used to it.

my problems with HP is you can never understand them when you call for technical help.

vista is also a big problem.

i think that imac sales skyrocketed when vista came on the market.

but i think microsoft will come out with a new version soon to try and recapture the market. not too sure about 7, might be good to go to xp.

Well Jason will have the final say on that, He is the one to maintain it and I don't know squat. When he put 7 on and took XP off things sure ran smoother. BTW when he gets all the parts together, he wants me to build a cooling tower too mount all the cooling stuff in. It will be a challenge.
